Not many countries that is as rich and deeply-entrenched in culture continues to mesmerize and take you on a journey of it's own as much as China can. The 4,000 year-old ancient Chinese civilization has fascinated and enchanted westerners since centuries, thus proving why the nation is such a tourist magnet. Home to atleast one-fifth of the human race, it is easy to get lost in the crowd for China is famous for being the most populated country in the planet.

The number one attraction seen in every tourist's itinerary is the Great Wall of China. This magnificent structure stretches over 8,000 kilometers from the fortress of Shanhaiguan in the east to Jiayuguan in the west and passes via Hebei, Tientsin, Beijing as well as Inner Mongolia, Ningxia and Gansu. The best preserved portion of this majestic wall can be visited from Beijing where it is not only more easily accessible but also curves impressively over the mountain peaks.

When in Beijing, be sure to head over to the the country's biggest and most significant building - the Forbidden City - also referred to as the Imperial Palace. Housed in the epicenter of the country's capital, the complex spans over 720,000 square meters and is shielded by a 10-meter-high wall along with watchtowers and a vast moat. Other highlights from Beijing includes the remarkable Imperial Summer Palace, located in the midst of over 700 acres of stunning parkland. Renowned to be one of the best archaeological finds ever, the Terracotta Army is a collection of terracotta life-size sculptures showcasing the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. These magnificent pieces can be viewed at Emperor Qin Shi Huang's Mausolem Site Park.

Shanghai, Hong Kong and Guangzhou are competing with each other on representing modern architecture and the number of skyscrapers that can be glimpsed in the respective cities. When in Shanghai, head over to the Huangpu River bank in Pudong's Luijiazui District and marvel at the stunning steel-and-glass towers spruced around the shimmering cityscape such as the Oriental Pearl Tower and the Shanghai World Financial Center. When holidaying in Hong Kong, do drop by at the Victoria Harbor waterfront around the Tsim Sha Tsui East Promenade to admire the glittering skyline, magnificently illuminated upon nightfall. Folks visiting with families, do take a trip to Hong Kong Disneyland, a classic favorite with kids. While in Guangzhou, a must-see tourist point is the Canton Tower (also known as Guangzhou Tower) which is colorfully lit after the sun sets.

It would be a shame to not see adorable Pandas while holidaying in China. While most of the zoos in the country do feature these cuddly animals, be sure to visit the Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in Chengdu to experience them up-close in their natural habitat. Cruise around the Li River in a passenger boat to enjoy the luscious bamboo jungles, thick reed-beds and impressive rock formations and caves bearing names such as Mount of Unique Beauty, Elephant Trunk Hill and Reed Flute Cave. Speaking of rivers, the Yangtze River offers numerous luxurious riverboats for a calm and composed tour to enjoy the scenic attractions.

When it comes to shopping in China, be on the look-out for porcelain goods, antique furniture, traditional Chinese art, carpets, Jade stones, pearl and pearl jewellery, silver coins and expensive ceramic. When it comes to Chinese cuisine, everything from dim sum to wonton noodles are available, particularly in Guangzhou and Hongkong. Renowned for being the birthplace of tea, don't forget to sip some refreshing Chinese Tea.

The stay options in China are plenty with the best luxury hotels and private apartments catering to the richie-rich as well as modest and cheap accommodations suiting the budget travellers.

The climate of china is extremely diverse and varies from region to region. Overall, the best time to visit this fascinating country would be during autumn (September-October-November) when the temperatures are more or less relatively temperate.
