With pristine white sandy beaches and sparkling waters, Ballina is perched at the mouth of the Richmond River. Renowned to be a coastal town, just south of Byron Bay and Lennox Head in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, this Australian town is peppered with historical wonders in its backstreets. Kick-start the trip by heading over to the historic Ballina Manor. Take a tour and view the various aspects that makes it tick. One of the highlights include the original North Coast Girls dining room that dates as far back as from 1925. Visitors get to view the internal and external architecture, various period antiques throughout the structure, the interpretative panels and photo exhibit showcasing the transformations of Ballina Manor, the two storey wood staircase and any of the available 12 rooms and historical documentation and artefacts.

Be sure to head over to the Australian Seabird Rescue, Research, Rehabilitaton and Coastal Education Centre in Ballina. It offers a glimpse of an elaborate and detailed educational experience catering to people of all ages. Be sure to get a close-up look of wild-life creatures such as pelicans, other sea birds, shore birds, and even the endangered sea turtles. Do check out the Ballina and Naval Maritime Museum. It is home to extensive exhibits of Port of Ballina and talks about local history.

Any trip to Ballina is not complete without catching a glimpse of Big Prawn, one of Australia's iconic big things. Housed adjacent to Bunnings Warehouse on River Street, the massive crustacean can be gazed at for public viewing where people can be camera-happy and take memorable snapshots. The Big Prawn stands at a height of 9 meters and weighs 35 tonne. There are a couple of beaches in Ballina that will make beach-a-holics very happy. Some of them are: Lighthouse, Shelley and Angels.

When it comes to shopping, Ballina has 2 shopping areas. One is housed in the Ballina CBD at River Street and nearby street like Tamar Street. The other shopping hub is situated at the northern end of Kerr Street, with Ballina Fair on the western side and Ballina Central on the eastern side of Kerr Street. As for cuisine, do indulge in local fare served in any of the restaurants dotted in the resort town.
